Child Vaccine Study

Our research department is working with Dr. Baucom and Renaissance Pediatric in Chesapeake, VA on a clinical research study to evaluate an investigational combination vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox in children. This vaccine would lessen the number of shots required for full immunization.

Your child must be a patient at Renaissance Pediatric, and meet the following requirements in order to participate in this study:

· Be 12 to 14 months of age.

· Be accompanied by a parent or guardian at each study visit.

· Have received previous standard vaccinations.

If you participate, your child will receive:

· Vaccination at no cost.

· Monitoring by healthcare professionals throughout the study.

You may receive:

· Compensation for time and travel.

Did you know that measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox are still infecting children in our country today?

These illnesses and their complications can be very serious and in rare cases even cause death. For this reason, medical researchers are working to develop more efficient and widely available methods to vaccinate children.

As a parent, it is normal to want the best for your child. And pediatric care may be a subject of concern. But thanks to vaccines, the once very common child- hood diseases like polio are less likely to occur. Although no vaccine is 100% safe or effective, the Center for Disease Control upholds vaccines at the highest standard of safety. Years of testing and appro- val from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are required by law before vaccine use. Vaccines guard against in- fections and diseases that may lead to death such as:

Measles: may cause ear infections, and birth defects for pregnant females.

Meningitis: may cause swelling of the lining of the brain.

Mumps: may cause deafness.
