Cessation
Are you a Smoker?
It is amazing how long the tradition of smoking cigarettes has lasted. So why haven’t people kicked the habit?
No two people smoke for the same reason(s), but many times a person continues to smoke because of one or more of the following:
Stimulation — to energize.
Handling – it’s comforting to hold a cigarette (in hand/mouth).
Pleasure – to experience some form of enjoyment.
Relaxation/Tension – to use as a stress reliever or reducer.
Craving – the nicotine within the cigarette has become addictive.
Habit – it’s routine, something you normally do.
Now is a good time to quit!
About 80% of people who have lung cancer were smokers. The biggest benefit to quitting smoking, is that a person’s risk of developing lung cancer is reduced by half. Quitting also helps improve a person’s breathing, energy, blood flow and overall health of teeth and gums.
With an increasing amount of businesses, restaurants, even bars steering towards a smoke free environment, now may be a good time to stop smoking. If this goal is at the top of your list and you are at least 18 years of age, then volunteer for our Smoking Cessation Study.
